My story
I often get asked how my spiritual journey began, I now realise there is no particular beginning as such, but through further exploration have become to realise my ancestors place in this world and how their lineage has evolved over time. I understand that the innate skills I have now developed are an extension of my own family's DNA going back generations. In reflection I understand that I have grown up around very independent, outspoken and diverse women and this has shaped my own thought process and mindset in a very unique way. To be bold, to create, to have an open mind, have fun and most of all be compassionate.
Both my Nanna (Audrey) and Auntie Joan passed just before the pandemic 2019 within 12 months of one another. I believe that they were both healers in their own way (this I will explain in another blog).
I was raised within a very close matriarchal family and I am proud to be part of this lineage especially now that I work as a spiritual medium and energy healer. I would like to dedicate this blog to all of my ancestors and thank them for the endless support and love they have always shown me.
Discovering Our Family's Abilities
Children are always by nature very curious beings. I was certainly one of them, pretending to play but really listening to what the adults in the room were talking about.
Over the years I would hear nanna talking about Auntie Joan (nanna's cousin) and her "reading leaves' which seemed a very strange thing for nanna to talk about but I just brushed this off and carried on playing.
I remember visiting Auntie Joan regular as a child and she would enjoy watching me in dance competitions. I was always told my nanna to speak up in front of Auntie Joan due to her having hearing difficulties.
I often wondered how she always knew we were knocking at her door? I recall an occasion in my late teenage years when I told my nanna that I was going to visit Auntie Joan and she laughed and said 'ask her to read your tea leaves'.
Auntie Joan came to the door and invited me through to the kitchen, I sat at the dining table. She then asked if I would like a hot drink, I immediately asked for coffee!!!! unsure what would happen if I had tea.
I then called out to her and said 'how did you know that I was knocking at the door, Auntie Joan replied 'you will soon find out', I was taken a back and worried that I was going to have hearing difficulties! I now know that this is not what she had meant.
Even though these subjects (tea leaf reading) were touched upon this was never discussed further. It seemed to be some kind of mystery or a secret that they would only know about.
Over time I took a keen interest in looking into my ancestry and during conversations found out that there were other generations of my family that were also reading tea leaves.
My Auntie Yvonne (mum's sister) told me about a memory she had of Nellie (Ellen) when she was about 16 years old and had gone to see her Nanna. Over a cup of tea! yes a cup of tea! Nellie had asked if she could read her tea leaves, my Aunt agreed and recalls how Nellie had told her that she could see Yvonne in a blue uniform and pushing trolleys. My aunt did not take this information seriously but then said that when she was 18 years old she had taken a job at her local Co-op where she wore a blue apron and was pushing trolleys!
I realised over time that there was something within our family DNA, that there was more to this than simply just having certain experiences or a keen interest.
What more did I learn about my family history?
What other skills or experiences would they reveal?
Why did they keep their skills or gifts a secret?
